Seven golden stars in Great Taste 2013

Tea Story, the tea & accessories online and retail company based in London, is delighted to announce that they have won four awards in the Great Taste Awards 2013, organised by the Guild of Fine Food.

Black tea Yunnan Golden Rain also fruit infussion Tutti Fruti Organic and herbal tisane Greek Mountain Organic have been awarded two golden stars and green tea White Monkey have been awarded one golden star, in one of the world’s most trusted and recognised food and drink awards.

Almost 10,000 products were entered this year and 400 judges took part in blind tasting sessions, where branding was removed and products judged solely on taste. Judges particularly complimented these following:

Yunnan Golden Rain - 2 stars

"Very good Yunnan character. Good length of flavour. A lovely leaf and the liquor is not too oily, with good length of flavour."

Greek Mountain Organic - 2 stars

"It has a very bright, fresh herbal fragrance: very clean. An incredibly pleasant, interesting flavour which has some familiar overtones like rosemary, along with some unexpected notes. This is a traditional Greek favourite which really deserves to be better known. We would love to see this even more prominently on the market."

Tutti Fruti Organic - 2 stars

"Great fruit nose. This is managing the many ingredients well. There's a good flavour profile. A good herbal overtone to this. A good tannin from the berry skins. Genuine sweet fruit delivery."

What is Great Taste?

Great Taste is the largest and most trusted accreditation scheme for speciality and fine food & drink. Established in 1994, it encourages and mentors artisan food producers, offering a unique benchmarking and product evaluation service leading to an independent accreditation that enables small food and drink businesses to compete against supermarket premium own label brands.

Since 1994 over 80,000 products have been evaluated. This year alone, almost 10,000 products were blind-tasted by panels of specialists: top chefs, cookery writers, food critics, restaurateurs and fine food retailers.

They’re looking for great texture and appearance. They judge the quality of ingredients and how well the maker has put the food or drink together. But above all, they are looking for truly great taste.
